There are some people who we would like to ban from owning a Twitter account because it’s just too much of a responsibility for them NOT to make a tit of themselves.
It’s generally a good idea to understand that if you’re an asshat and do something stupid like, oh we don’t know, knock a cyclist OFF his bike then sending a boastful tweet about it is not only extremely stupid but also very wrong.
But one young woman from Norwich, who describes herself as a “trainee accountant” (that’s that career down the pan) didn’t get the memo.
Thinking her tweet “Definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier.
“I have right of way – he doesn’t even pay road tax! #Bloodycyclists.” would only be seen by a handful of users, the dangerous road user must’ve had one hell of a shock when her tweet was picked up and responded to by the Norfolk police.
The police tweeted telling @emmaway20 (whose account has now been deleted) that she should turn herself in to a police station as soon as possible.
The cyclist involved in the case was Toby Hockley and he had no plans on reporting the incident – although why he wouldn’t is beyond us. However, he was lucky that he wasn’t killed.
He told the BBC: ”A car came tearing round the blind corner and narrowly missed a cyclist in front of me. She came on to my side of the road, I took the wing mirror off and I went flying off my bike into a hedge.
“She hit me hard, really hard. I am lucky to be alive.
“But I managed to get out of the hedge and stand up. The car was nowhere to be seen. She hit me, and she was gone. All I know is that it was a blonde girl driving.”
Of course when you do one thing on twitter it’s only natural for your whole timeline to be investigated. It turns out that @EmmaWay20 has a bit of form when it comes to being an arsehole on the road. She’s also tweeted images of her doing 95mph, being stuck behind a smart car and tailgating other motorists.
So what do we think? A new driving test as well as a test for anyone opening a twitter account.
