The day the internet stood still – Facebook goes down in Global outage

Facebook is down, I repeat, Facebook is down. Right now, Facebook is in the middle of a global outage. At the time of writing, no one knows why and there is no statement from Facebook.

As the internet grinds to a halt, so work productivity may reach an all time high. If the same was to happen to Twitter right now I think the world may have its most productive day ever in the workplace.

Millions of users worldwide were hit with the screen of death shown below when they went to log in to have a nosey at what their friends, enemies and colleagues had been posting to their favourite social network. It is estimated, by this commentator alone, that over seven million pictures of babies doing “cute” things will fail to be posted during this time, and surely this will have a knock-on effect for the sale of pug dogs and kittens.

We can only hope, for the sake of over-sharers throughout the world, that Facebook returns, and returns with great haste. In the meantime, let us all take bets on when them FSB killjoys bang out a press release praising UK workers for hitting new levels of work productivity.

*EDIT: At the time of writing, Facebook had returned… darn
