Editor's Letter

Editors Letter: Doctor Who is quitting and it’s my fault.

OK I’m going to admit something dear The Spin Alley readers. I think that I’m to blame for current Dr Who, Matt Smith quitting.

Let me explain, just before previous timelord Christopher Eccleston quit the series in 2005 I managed to get in his way whilst he was having a jog through Cardiff Bay. He was very pleasant but just days later, he quit.

Fast forward to 2013. This Thursday, I was having a mooch through my local town (another very well known Dr Who filming location) and I again, bumped in to the Dr. This time it was Matt Smith. I wasn’t looking where I was going and trying to fumble for my car keys, he was doing the celeb thing and taking pictures so when I say that I bumped in to him, I really did bump in to him – *face palm*.

Days later – another quitter.

I tell you readers, there does seem to be a bit of a pattern emerging.

If you’ve somehow managed to miss the news then Matt Smith (who in real life looks like an Aardman creation) is set to bow out of Doctor Who after playing the Dr for four years. His last appearance will be Christmas special – he’ll also make an appearance in the 50th anniversary episode.

Smith, 30, said: “Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other.”

So who do you think would make a good Doctor? I’m staying out of it, after all, I don’t want to jinx another Doctor!
