This weekend Spanish police are cracking open the Sangria as they celebrate catching Andrew Moran – one of Britain’s most wanted criminals.
Moran who’s been on the run since 2009 was convicted of armed robbery in which he used a gun, machete and baseball bat to hold up Royal Mail guards in 2005.
During the trial, in February 2009, he assaulted four security guards, jumped over the dock and escaped.
He was convicted in his absence of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and placed on the Serious Organised Crime Agency’s most wanted list.
Police found him on Saturday lounging by the swimming pool of his luxury villa on Spain’s Costa Blanca.
Spain’s National Police said Moran confronted officers when they tried to arrest him, and that they recovered two handguns, 60 rounds of ammunition and a machete.
Not the usual suspect you expect to be wandering around the Costa Blanca. Moran will appear at court in Madird this week.
